Words to start a Workshop
Getting started with a main Message.
I am going to start with trying to say something Profound.
I find that words that start with “P” are important for Juggling, or for juggling the most important words start with “P.”
“The Pass is Paramount” Everyone say it together.
“R.U.T. “I have come up with a saying, that the Artists always feels a RUT with every stroke of their brush. There is a RUT with every attempt of throwing the ball or doing anything else. With every toss there is a Risk, Uncertainty, and Thrill. With every toss we take a risk, although small, we are uncertain of what may happen, and wonder at the thrill of it happening. Mindfulness saying, “Just throw it up and see what happens.” The mindful part is, “See what happens.” That is all you really can do.
“The Pass is the Past.” Notice, “The ball you are looking at has already been thrown. The processing for throwing the next ball is happening without thought. -intraparietal sulcus.”
Although it is true that the opposite of everything I say may also be true, it is best for the flow of this workshop if we try to follow instructions. I can tell if I am understood and move on to next steps. If you throw the balls in a different manner the student will not be ready for the teacher. The steps follow a progression.
“The Paradox of Juggling” is that something so simple can look complex. Although other activities can have flow, juggling tries to simplify and eliminate as many distractions as possible keeping the goal as simple as possible. This simplification allows juggling to be a great warmup act for other activities or before ramping up the complexity for its own sake.
“Juggling is Active Relaxation”
And A Take Home Message:
How to Practice: Practice for Success: take a step back so you can complete the task successfully. Or the opposite, once in a while, practice to failure. Go until you drop on purpose.
