Corporate Team Building
What it looks like:
People gather, possibly in a circle, tossing one ball to themselves, usually from one hand to the other. Individual feedback will be given to each person, reminding everyone what the goal for tossing one ball can be.
The essence of this session is encapsulated here: that it is important to realize what you can do, practice at that level, and add a small step that feels like a challenge! The essence of progression in juggling is continually reminding ourselves of “learning to learn,” scaffolding. That is, through persistence, patience, and progression, we take the smallest steps towards success.
The workshop continues and progresses from one-ball tosses to incremental changes, reinforcing the mantra, “practice where you are at with small marginal gains: “learning to learn.” We will continue with one ball, experimenting with some purposeful play: purposeful drops, partner passing, takeaways, and blind (eyes closed) passes. We will play with these purposeful variations to experience new and creative variations, sensations, of what a single toss can be.
After we have spent the majority of our time dwelling on single ball tosses, we add another ball to the mix, observing how a second toss compares to our first toss. We then summarize with 3 balls, observing how we experiment with timing and space with every single ball toss to create a rhythm and pattern to allow a continuous flow. We conclude with a summary that the benefits of juggling will come from being where you are at, consciously doing the simple action that you can do with success, and adding only the smallest challenge to prepare, engage, and grow the mind.
The benefits come from visualizing, seeing, and setting a goal, realizing where you are at, and adding incrementally small changes. This progression will help you enjoy juggling and can be applied as a metaphor to other goal-setting activities.
Where:
This activity can be done anywhere your group can stand together, preferably in a circle, an arm’s length apart.
Why:
This experience will be a lifetime memory that one can reflect on and continue to use. Juggling is a great way to invigorate, energize, and engage the mind, serving as an active form of mental respite, preparedness, or rejuvenation.
Make this experience a chance to do something uniquely new and refreshing, as it can be every time you juggle. These benefits of juggling can be applied to any other activity you engage in!
When:
You decide!
Who:
Inclusive: Everyone and anyone. Everyone in attendance participates in their own way. Ideally 5 to 20 people per workshop.
How Long:
A very tight 1-hour, an easy 1 ½ - hour or a comfortable planned 2-hour.
Core thought: to Parse
Scaffolding: reinforcing learning
The key benefit of progressing with juggling is breaking down any new task into small, achievable goals: scaffolding. Juggling continues to reinforce “learning to learn,” which leads to: progressive scaffolding, development, and achievement.
