What it looks like:

We call ourselves The Juggling Metaphor. We want to bring this energizing experience of learning to juggle to your community. Juggling has many benefits that bring a new and refreshing outlook towards any activity that occupies one’s mind. Learning to juggle can be transformative and energizing, and learning in a group can be even more motivating. Please consider booking a juggling workshop: “learning to Juggle,” where we go through the entire process to complete a 3-ball cascade. Yet we finish by reminding everyone that the greatest benefit comes from practicing at the level you find yourself.

What:

People gather in a circle, and while balls are being tossed, individual feedback will be given to each person, reminding everyone what the goal for tossing one ball can be. The essence of this session is encapsulated here: that it is important to realize what you can do, practice at that level, and add a small step that feels like a challenge! We will continue the one-ball toss with incremental challenges and reinforcing the mantra, “practice where you are at with small marginal gains.” We will continue with one ball, experimenting with some purposeful drops, blind (eyes closed) tosses, and other purposeful variations with the goal of new observations and a better single toss! After we have spent the majority of time dwelling on single ball tosses, we add another ball to the mix, observing how a second toss compares to our first toss, and trying to make them equal. We then summarize with 3 balls, observing how we experiment with timing and space with every single ball toss to create a rhythm and pattern to allow a continuous flow. We conclude with a summary that the benefits of juggling will come from being where you are at, consciously doing the simple action that you can do with success, and adding only the smallest challenge to prepare, engage, and grow the mind.

Where:

This activity can be done anywhere your group can stand together, preferably in a circle, an arm’s length apart.

Why:

This experience provides students with a lifelong memory and a tangible model they can reflect on or enhance their ability to "learn how to learn." Primarily, juggling reinforces and reminds us how to break down, to parse tasks into manageable chunks that allow us to progress. In juggling, we call that “learning to learn:” breaking things down to build back up again.

The Juggling Metaphor is for any age (generally over 14 years old).

Inclusive: Everyone and Anyone

Ideally suited for People, Parents and Youth(14+), Adults, Teens, Seniors, groups or teams

and a special program for people that have excuses! (“I can’t”)

Generally, we require 5 to 15+ people per workshop

How Long:

A very tight 1-hour, an easy 1 ½ - hour or a comfortable planned 2-hour.
